Loaded Sweet Potato Fries {Paleo, Whole30}

Sharing is caring!

Whole 30 Egg Free No Added Sugar

These loaded sweet potato fries are sponsored by Jones Dairy Farm and all opinions are my own, as always.

These loaded sweet potato fries are easy to make and packed with goodies!   Sweet potato fries are baked crispy and topped with plenty of No Sugar Hickory Smoked Bacon, dairy-free cheese sauce, green onions, avocado and tomatoes. This fun meal or appetizer is kid approved, paleo, Whole30 compliant and seriously tasty!

“Fun food” always brightens my mood a little bit.  All the good stuff – like nachos, loaded fries, wings, and ALL the dips (my buffalo chicken dip is my fave!) doesn’t have to be “junk” at all.

Trust me on this – you can make these things taste JUST as good (if not better!) than the original unhealthy versions.

Like these sweet potato fries loaded up with goodies like crispy bacon, avocado, green onions, and a cheese sauce you won’t believe isn’t actually cheese!

We are not messing around here, people!  These loaded sweet potato fries are the real deal and will totally satisfy that “fun food” craving.

What You Need to Make Paleo Loaded Sweet Potato Fries

The “cheese” sauce is cashew based and easy to make in any high speed blender or food processor (see below).

You can add any additional toppings to the fries that you’re craving.  Here’s what you’ll need to prepare the loaded sweet potato fries:

Cheese Sauce:

  • raw cashews
  • fresh lemon juice
  • warm water
  • olive oil or avocado oil
  • garlic powder
  • sea salt
  • nutritional yeast

Sweet Potato Fries:

  • large sweet potatoes
  • avocado oil, or light flavored olive oil
  • Sea salt and black pepper
  • 8 oz package Jones Dairy Farm No Sugar Hickory Smoked Bacon
  • bunch green onions, thinly sliced
  • avocado
  • cherry tomatoes (or tomatoes)

How to Make Dairy Free Cheese Sauce

I typically use a Nutribullet to make my cheese sauces and it gives me a very silky smooth sauce that you can use as a drizzle or dip.

Since you’re making a smaller amount of sauce (not a whole casserole’s worth!) a large blender or food processor won’t work well.

I recommend using a smaller high speed blender or food processor to get the sauce very creamy.  I typically do not need to soak my cashews for this sauce using a Nutribullet.

If you think your food processor or blender needs extra help, I recommend soaking the cashews for about 2 hours in hot water before blending them in the sauce.

As for blending the sauce, you do not need to add the ingredients in a specific order.  Simply add everything to the blender and blend/process/pulse until it’s creamy.

What Can I Use the Leftover Cheese Sauce For?

If you have a good amount of leftover cheese sauce, there are SO many yummy ways to use it!

Make a vegan pizza, chicken parmesan, or simply use it as a dip or topping for veggies over the next few days.

The cheese sauce will keep well in the refrigerator for about 4-5 days.

I hope you’re ready for a seriously delicious and FUN meal/appetizer/snack that also happens to be good for you!  Grab your sweet potatoes and let’s get cooking – it’s time to start!

Ingredients

Cheese Sauce:*

  • 1 cup raw cashews
  • no need to soak
  • 3 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 3/4 tsp sea salt
  • 2 Tbsp nutritional yeast

Sweet Potato Fries:

  • 2 large sweet potatoes or 3 medium, peeled (or just scrubbed) and cut into French fry shape, about 1/2” thick
  • 1 Tbsp avocado oil or light flavored olive oil
  • Sea salt and black pepper
  • 1 8 oz package Jones Dairy Farm No Sugar Hickory Smoked Bacon
  • 1 bunch green onions thinly sliced
  • 1 small avocado diced
  • 1/2 cup tomatoes or cherry tomatoes diced

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425° F and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Place cut sweet potatoes in a bowl, toss with the oil and sprinkle all over with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Arrange on the baking sheets in a single layer with no two fries touching - this will help them turn out crispy!
  3. Place baking sheets on racks in the upper portion of your oven, and roast for 20-25 minutes until bottoms are browning (fries on the bottom rack will brown first), flip the fries using a spatula and return to a single layer. Rotate baking sheets 180 degrees AND switch oven racks (bottom sheet moves to top, top to bottom, to promote even browning.
  4. Continue to bake another 10-15 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning. Oven times will vary, so your baking time might be shorter or longer.
  5. While the fries bake, make the cheese sauce. In a small blender (I used a NutriBulleblend together all the cheese ingredients until very smooth. Depending on your blender, this might take several minutes. Once smooth, taste and adjust any seasonings to taste.
  6. In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium high heat until crisp. Drain on paper towels, crumble, and set aside.
  7. Once the fries are done, it’s time to load them up! Arrange them on a platter and top with the cheese sauce (you can pipe it on or drizzle), the crumbled bacon, avocado, green onion, and tomatoes. Serve right away and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

*This will make more than you need for this recipe. Leftovers save well in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week, or you can freeze to keep longer.
