This Tart Cherry Lime Homemade Gummy “Candy” is made with grass fed, pasture raised gelatin for a boost of immunity and gut healing powers! This healthy homemade gummy candy is ultra kid friendly and great for grown-ups too. Made with 100% tart cherry juice, raw honey and grass fed gelatin.
Following up from last week’s full review of Vital Proteins grass fed collagen products, I’m bringing you a fun (and super tasty!) recipe for Tart Cherry Lime Homemade Gummy Candy!
This recipe uses Vital Proteins grass fed, pasture raised beef gelatin, which means that in addition to it it simply being awesome because it tastes like candy, you’re also getting major health benefits from the collagen protein.

Vital Proteins collagen protein is a 100% pure, pasture-raised, grass-fed gelatin powder. It dissolves in hot liquids and thickens in cold liquids (ideal for gummies and other desserts!)
The amino acids contained in gelatin are therapeutic and are identical to the protein found in skin, nails, hair, bones, cartilage, and joints. It’s gluten Free, rBGH Free, non GMO. It’s great for gut health and an overall boost to your immune system.
And if that’s not enough, I decided to indulge in my ongoing obsession with tart cherry juice and add to the “bang” you get with this recipe. Tart cherry juice is AWESOME for runners, as many of you guys might already know! Tart cherry juice has been shown to have some pretty impressive anti-inflammatory powers and is great for easing post-run soreness and joint pain/inflammation. It’s also loaded with antioxidants and has even been shown to help with insomnia! Is this the perfect juice, or what?

A couple of notes on the recipe before we get started. Although I purchased special candy molds to create fun shapes, you can also use a mini muffin pan with mini liners, or even pour the mixture into an 8 x 8 inch baking dish (very lightly greased with coconut oil) and then simply cut into squares or use cookie cutters for shapes. However, my family (and I!) did prefer a slightly bigger gummy for this recipe to get the full tart/sweet cherry lime flavor! Okay, gummy time – let’s go!
Tart Cherry Lime Homemade Gummy “Candy” with Vital Proteins

Tart Cherry Lime Gummy "Candy" {Paleo}

Ingredients
- 3/4 cup 100% organic tart cherry juice
- 1/4 cup fresh squeezed lime juice strained
- 2 tbsp raw honey
- 3 tbsp Vital Proteins Grass Fed Gelatin
Instructions
-
In a saucepan, heat the juices over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
-
Lower the heat to the lowest setting and whisk in the honey until fully dissolved.
-
Now, whisk in 1 tbsp at a time of the gelatin, adding another only after the others dissolve. Continue to stir until the gelatin is fully dissolved, about 10 mins.
-
Once you have no lumps, just liquid*, remove from heat and carefully transfer the liquid into your gummy molds (sometimes a dropper is provided with the molds, which is helpful.) If you don't have molds, you can use a mini muffin pan lined with mini liners, or a very lightly greased 8 x 8 inch baking dish.
-
Refrigerate until firm (1-2 hours depending on the size of your gummies) then pop out and enjoy! If you used a baking dish, you can cut into squares or use cookie cutters.
-
I stored mine in the refrigerator, but these will remain solid at room temp. Enjoy!
Recipe Notes
*Don't worry if you have a couple of small stubborn lumps, if the gelatin is mostly dissolved, you're good to go!

Are you a fan of tart cherry juice? Do you believe in its benefits?
What is one recipe idea you’d like to see using Vital Proteins grass fed collagen?

Maybe try blooming the gelatin in some of the cherry juice prior to adding it so it will dissolve easily. I found this to be helpful:
“Blooming gelatin is a step integral to ensuring the smooth texture of a finished product. It involves sprinkling the powdered gelatin into a liquid and letting it sit for 3 to 5 minutes. Then, when the mixture is heated, the gelatin will dissolve evenly. You can bloom gelatin in just about any liquid.”
Yes, that does make it easier!
Can you use maple syrup instead
Of honey?? Thanks for any help
Haven’t tried it but I don’t see why not. It might alter the texture slightly though.
Hi
I made these and they are fabulous. I am wondering how long can you store them? I’d like to make a large batch but worry they might not keep for very long.
Thanks for the great recipe!
Why did it take 2 years after I bought my gummy bear tray to take less than 10 minutes to make!!?? I ask myself..i thought I needed a dehydrater..anywho don’t think you will need the honey..i just made an Apple juice version but added 1 tablespoon of multi collagen from DrAxe to it they came out great
Cant wait to try this! But 3g per serving? Is that for just 1 gummy candy? Thank you
It depends on the size of your gummy molds but I calculated it based on 16 servings, which would definitely be more than one gummy 🙂
Hi. Is there anyway I can make the gummies harder? Like less liquid? Thsnks in advance
These are awesome! My nieces and nephew eat them right up and they don’t have all of the junk of processed candy. Thank you for the recipe!
Yay! Thrilled to hear it!
I made this and doubled the recipe. Turned out great. I just poured the mixture into a lightly greased 8×8 pan and cut them into 32 squares once they’d solidified, but am seriously eyeing those cute molds for the future. Thank you!
The molds are fun! And happy this worked out well for you 🙂
I have collagen peptides, are they the same as gelatin? Sorry this all confuses me still. lol. Thanks
These are awesome!! I’ve made them probably once a fortnight for the last 6 months and have loved every single batch. How well do you think they would freeze though? I just find that I’m wasting some of my tarte cherry juice by it going off after being open for a while and I’m wondering if I could cook a big batch and then freeze until ready to bring some out?
