How to Make Bacon Wrapped BBQ Chicken Bites
I find that timing is key with anything bacon wrapped. Since you want the bacon to crisp up well without overcooking the chicken, you’ll need to cook it for a few minutes prior to wrapping the chicken. I cooked mine in a 400° F oven for about 7 minutes. Cut the bacon sliced in half, crosswise, before putting them in the oven.
Meanwhile, cut the chicken into 1” cubes. Place them in a bowl and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and the spices. Next, toss them with some of the BBQ sauce to coat well.
After the bacon is done, keep the oven on while you wrap the chicken. Wrap each piece in 1/2 of a bacon strip and secure with a toothpick. Place them back on the baking sheet. I lined my baking sheet with parchment paper and then topped with a wire rack. You can skip the wire rack for easier cleanup.
Place the bacon wrapped chicken in the oven and bake for about 10 minutes, then remove and brush all over with more BBQ sauce. Continue to bake them for about 5-10 minutes or until the bacon is crisp and the chicken is cooked through. You can serve them right away as is, or with some Whole30 ranch sauce for dipping which is delicious!
Where to Find Sugar-Free, Whole30 Compliant BBQ Sauce
To make this recipe Whole30 compliant, you’ll also need to use a BBQ sauce without any added sugar. I love both the Tessemae or Primal Kitchen BBQ sauce, or you can make your own at home with dates to sweeten. It’s more work of course, but a great option if you can’t get your hands on a store bought version.
You can use my recipe here for homemade Whole30 compliant BBQ sauce. I hope you’re ready for these delicious, easy, good for you bacon wrapped BBQ chicken bites! Whether it’s for a party or just because, I know you’re going to love them – let’s go!

Bacon Wrapped BBQ Chicken Bites {Whole30}
Ingredients
- 1 package Jones Dairy Farm No Sugar All Natural Uncured Hickory Smoked Bacon 8 slices, strips cut in half crosswise
- 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts cut into cubes (about 1”, or 16 cubes)
- Sea salt and black pepper
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp paprika
- 3/4 cup BBQ sauce homemade or Whole30 store bought, divided
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 400° F.
-
Cut the bacon strips into thirds. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and top with an oven safe rack, fi you have one. If not, the parchment is fine. Place bacon strips on the prepared sheet and bake about 5 minutes - until they’re halfway done, not crisp.
-
Place the cubes chicken in a small bowl and sprinkle with the salt, pepper and spices and toss to coat. Top with 1/4 cup of BBQ sauce toss to coat again.
-
Wrap a partially cooked bacon piece around each chicken cube and secure with a toothpick. Place back on the baking sheet/rack.
-
Bake for 10 minutes, then brush the chicken all over with the remaining BBQ sauce. Continue to bake until chicken is no longer pink and bacon is crisp, 6-8 minutes longer. Enjoy!

The recipe doesn’t state anything about the spices other than salt and pepper – I looked back at the blog part to see what should have been done but I already coated the chicken with the sauce! Should adjust! 🙂

A little confused on how to cut the bacon. The recipe calls for 8 pieces and then says chicken will be about 16 pieces so would make sense to me to cut in half but recipe calls for cutting in half crosswise and also in thirds so I took that to mean in half the long way and in thirds the short way but this results in a lot of bacon pieces – and the recipe says wrap one piece around a piece of chicken – let me know a little more specifically what the intention was 🙂 thanks!

it would be nice to know how much salt and pepper you use. Also agree that the recipe calls for spices but is not mentioned in the directions. Had to go to the blog to see.
