This creamy and refreshing paleo green smoothie has it all! It’s sweetened with fruit only, packs in the veggies and is even kid approved! Add your favorite protein powder or collagen to make it either paleo or vegan.

The first thing I wanted to make after purchasing my new blender (first “real” blender!) two months ago was a green smoothie.
I know that I’m way late to the green-game, but my old, barely functional blender did not have the powder to make any sort of smoothie, let alone one that required pureeing veggies.
So, pure curiosity (along with a love for all green things, I suppose) made me want to try out a green smoothie ASAP after buying my refurbished Vitamix.

Even though it was my first time, I had big green smoothie goals. First, I wanted it to be completely naturally sweetened – it just seems like a green smoothie needs to be free of any added sugar, don’t you think?
Second, I wanted to make it without bananas. Why?! Well, I feel like there are TONS of smoothie recipes out there using bananas as a sweetener, and I wanted to think outside the banana box.
Third, I wanted to add protein. Okay, admittedly this was the easiest requirement – just add your favorite collagen or plant based protein powder and, like magic, it blends right in.

My next requirement (I’m losing count now) was to add a decent amount of veggies in there. An Instagram follower said she used frozen zucchini to both add creaminess + veggies to her smoothies.
I really loved the idea and wasted NO TIME running to the store for frozen zucchini! Bonus – the zucchini isn’t detected and adds no sugar, fat, or calories to the smoothie!
Lastly, I wanted this smoothie to be really GREEN. As in, the color. So that meant I didn’t use any nut butters or berries or anything that would off-set the color. AND, I added in a decent amount of actual greens, without making the flavor bitter.

It also meant I added in green grapes, because they add both color, sweetness, and flavor to the smoothie. I never thought I’d be adding grapes to a smoothie. Or zucchini, for that matter! Never say never…

Lastly, I added in a bit of flaxseed meal for extra good fats plus an added creaminess to the texture after blending.
The smoothie is thick and creamy yet refreshing, and is also perfect for the summer heat when you can’t stand the thought of turning on the stove in the morning!
I hope you’re ready for something new, nourishing, and totally delicious! Let’s blend away 🙂
