This creamy brownie batter chocolate smoothie is packed with good for you ingredients but tastes like dessert! Have it for breakfast, a snack, or healthy dessert. It’s paleo friendly, dairy free, vegan and free of refined sugar. Add your favorite chocolate protein powder for an extra chocolate kick!

After I made this chocolate chip cookie smoothie I was totally hooked on the idea of making my favorite desserts into smoothies!
You get the flavor and creamy texture you crave in a dessert but a much healthier version.
With no added sugar (totally fruit sweetened!) and good for you ingredients like avocado, raw cacao powder, banana, and almond milk, you can make a thick creamy smoothie that you’d swear was a decadent milkshake!
Only better – I’m telling you!
My smoothie kick is leading to very delicious things! Just can’t wait until fall to make a creamy pumpkin pie smoothie! Or maybe pumpkin cheesecake. Can’t decide!
But let’s stay on track (my attention to one recipe is limited as you can see!) with this creamy brownie batter chocolate smoothie.

What You Need to Make this Paleo Brownie Batter Chocolate Smoothie
The ingredients are super simple and thrown together effortlessly!
For the yogurt, I love Kite Hill Almond Milk Greek Style Yogurt (use it for all my smoothies).
To make the smoothie vegan, use a plant based protein powder and to keep it paleo, use chocolate collagen powder like Ancient Nutrition or Vital Proteins.
You can freeze your avocado chunks in advance or buy them frozen if you can find them! I like to freeze my banana slices in advance to have them around for recipes.
Here’s everything you need to make this smoothie:
- frozen avocado chunks
- banana, sliced and frozen
- raw cacao powder
- almond butter
- medjool dates, pitted
- dairy free plain or vanilla yogurt (I used Kite Hill Greek style yogurt)
- unsweetened almond milk
- chocolate collagen or protein powder, optional (I used Ancient Nutrition)
- chopped dark chocolate, for serving (optional) – Evolved Chocolate is great and now has chocolate chips too!

How to Make this Paleo Brownie Batter Chocolate Smoothie
This is a thicker smoothie (especially when you add less almond milk) so a high speed blender works best, like a Vitamix.
I used a Ninja blender and it came out great!
Simple place all ingredients (except for the chopped chocolate) in a high speed blender and blend until smooth and creamy.
Add around 1 1/2 cups almond milk for a thinner smoothie, and closer to 1 cup for a thicker smoothie.
Pour into 2 or 3 glasses and top with chopped chocolate if desired.

Substitutions for this Chocolate Smoothie
I’ve heard from some people who hate bananas and want to know if there’s something else they can sub in.
The strange answer to this is frozen cauliflower! It won’t give you the sweetness of bananas but the texture will be similar.
For added sweetness, either throw in an extra medjool date or more of your favorite chocolate flavored protein powder. You can always taste and adjust.
If you don’t need the smoothie to be paleo and vegan, you can make it with plain greek yogurt instead of plant based.
You can also sub in any nut butter you like (peanut butter for non-paleo!) and even swap out the dates for 2-3 tablespoons of maple syrup or agave.

I hope you’re ready for a serious treat of a breakfast!
Grab your ingredients and your favorite blender because it’s time for the BEST chocolate smoothie – let’s go!

Recipe Notes
*This recipe makes 2-3 servings. Adding more almond milk will thin it out and adding less will make it more like a "brownie batter".

This smoothie sounds incredible—definitely trying it out! I love how it mimics dessert without all the added sugar. Speaking of dessert-like drinks, if you’re ever in the mood for something indulgent and not homemade, the Cookout Milkshakes are seriously unbeatable. They have over 40 flavors and you can even mix and match! While they aren’t exactly paleo, they hit the spot when you’re craving a creamy treat.
Omg this brownie batter smoothie looks so good! I’m definitely gonna try this recipe out. I love that it’s paleo and vegan too, perfect for my diet!

I love how this recipe transforms classic brownie batter into a healthy smoothie! The tip about using frozen avocado for creaminess is a game changer—I’ve tried it in other smoothies with great results.
