I’m popping in today smack in the middle of an ultra-busy week! Between getting ready for our basement to be demo’ed and a few volunteer things at school in addition to the usual blog/kid stuff, my head is spinning faster than usual.
I’ll just get right into it for Thinking Out Loud – a few thoughts on my hair, Adam “moving in” with me, maybe just one complain about the October heat wave, and my birthday next week.
Thoughts and Life Updates {TOL}
1.) A haircut + birthday = seeing gray
What a lovely selfie.
There’s not a whole lot to see in the photo but dang it – I’ve yanked out 4 gray hairs this week after not noticing any for a couple of months. WTH?
After getting my haircut (one I was not thrilled with, but that’s another story) they just sort of started to multiply before my eyes as I stared at the top of my head. How many hairs can a person pull out before they start to look bald? I might be finding out that answer really soon if this keeps up.
2.) My cat might not survive our basement renovation. I might be the second to go.
With our basement renovation beginning TODAY, there is nothing at all left down there except the cat litter. I’m going to fight to keep it down there until the very last minute! And speaking of my cat, I’m not sure how he’s going to react to having his living space taken over for 6 weeks. I know I’m still in denial about having to live through this time with all 5 of us sharing one bathroom that doesn’t even allow you to properly close the door.
We need a new door.
Plus, I hadn’t even noticed that over the past several years, Adam has “moved” down to the basement. I definitely noticed once I saw just how much stuff he’s bringing back upstairs over the past few days. “Moving into a new phase of our relationship” jokes aside, this next 6 weeks is going to be quite chaotic and cluttered.
For the first time ever I might actually feel the same way as my cat does. Cross fingers that we’ll all get through it! The new basement-to-be is good motivation.
3.) Did I mention my birthday’s coming up?
It’s next Tuesday to be specific. And, because it’s my birthday, I’ll make all the ooey, gooey, fudgey chocolatey chip cookie skillets that I want to. Don’t be mad at me but these skillet cookies are dangerously addicting – no joke – plus insanely fast and easy to throw together.
The skillet cookie insanity will be up on the blog next Tues, until then, eat lots of veggies. Plus yesterday’s turkey apple meatballs to round out your plate of course.
4.) Speaking of cookies…
…I spent a good part of Monday updating my first ever cookie recipe on the blog – soft and chewy chocolate chip cranberry cookies! The recipe is still awesome, now at least the photos do them justice. This is a really simple and delicious chocolate chip cookie recipe whether you add the cranberries or not.
5.) I almost made it through without a the weather-complaining.
But no. 80 degrees is just too darn hot for October to let it slide. I want fall! I want sweaters and sweatpants! I want to be COLD! The combination of pitch black outside in the morning plus hot and humid must be the most awful conditions to step out into for a run. That, and a blizzard. I plan to avoid those this winter – key word here being “plan”, so, we’ll see!
Tell Me!
What’s your birthday month? How do you treat yourself? In addition to the skillet cookies, I also bought myself 1 new pair of shoes and 1 new pair of snow boots. I’m not ruling out another shoe purchase happening before Tuesday either. #shoesmakemeweak
Random thoughts for Thursday?
This weather is so strange! I am trying to enjoy it because I know I will be complaining about the cold soon, but I finally switched out my clothes and was ready for fall.
My bday was last week and I treated myself to some wine! But that’s not much different than most other days:)
Yup – same here with the clothes switch. Happy belated birthday! Wine is always a good idea, that will be added to the bday treat list!
I’m not complaining about the weather, not one bit! I just hope I don’t bite my words this winter, when it is supposed to be terrible. PLEASE DON’T BE TERRIBLE, WINTER!
I used to celebrate my birthday quite a bit more. This coming year, I was hoping that we might go to a particular concert that is right about then, but turns out that the closest venue is an hour away. Poop.
Good luck with the reno. At least you’ll still have your kitchen!
I keep telling myself at least I can use the kitchen! I’ll probably fight any kitchen projects simply because I don’t want to stop cooking!
My birthday is November 2, a week after hours. Send me some of those cookies please? Yum!
Well then one for me one for you!
I agree that it’s way too hot out! I was sweating like crazy on all my runs this week…not ok. I miss wearing long sleeves!
I know – although looking ahead it looks like Sunday will be back to long sleeves here – YAY!
I keep telling myself not to complain about the weather, but I want to wear boots and flannel and sweters without a heavy jacket – and I know the time frame for that is small. WTF world. Good luck with your eno!
Oh I hear you! I gave up on the “fall clothes with no jacket” fantasy a while ago but I still want to at least not have to wear a tank top!
Hey there! Stopping by the blog from TOLT! My cat does not do well with lots of change either, and can just start vomiting if any house-related upheaval is too much for her. (Thanks Emma the cat!)
Your skillet cookie looks amazing! If that’s paleo, then I’m in! More seriously though, I do enjoy paleo/primal eating, but my downfall are missing out on treats. Both of your cookies though look delicious! And the chocolate chip cranberry cookie recipe does not even look too hard… I have most of those ingredients already!
My cat is already in hiding and won’t move 🙁 The skillet cookies are SO easy and they’re Paleo! The recipe is actually very similar to the cranberry cookie one. Only 6 ingredients.
I thiiiink we’re finally cooling down here. I hope, at least. Because while I don’t want 3 feet of snow, I’d like fall temperatures… and they just turned the A/C off in my dorm, so it really needs to cool off.
My birthday is in March, conveniently during my winter finals 😛 But I get to celebrate over spring break! Shoes and giant cookies sound like an excellent celebration to me!
Yeah putting on the AC in October makes me mad, lol!
Chocolate chip cookies …. Oh wow, I have a chocolate chip cookie skillet on the list of ‘to make’, because I’ve never made one.
We’re having our basement rennovated too! Are you adding rooms to yours?
Happy early Birthday! I hope it’s filled with wonderful family time and lots of your amazing paleo baked goodies.
The skillet cookies are sooooo good – maybe my favorite, which is why they’re happening for my birthday 🙂
You can come visit me if you want some fall weather 🙂 Err… maybe it would have been better if you came a month ago since all our leaves are already gone, but the snow is starting to melt and it’s warming up a little, so it feels more like fall. And my birthday is in the beginning of January… quite possible the worst time ever because of the cold and the after-Christmas slump.
I will take melting snow over a warm fall – I’d rather be cold 🙂
I love the kitty picture, she says while responding to this comment with a cat warming her lap. Oscar is only with me though because it’s raining and the baby is sleeping…for how much longer I don’t know. Hopefully enough to get through this cup of coffee.
The weather here has been weird too. So super hot on Monday and Tuesday where I almost put the AC back on and today is cold, grey, rainy (as previously mentioned) and definitely chilly. Fall appears to be here, and now I want to hibernate and sneak in a nap…but first coffee. 🙂
Yup today we have the freezing wind and rain! At least it’s not hot anymore.
